Sunday Routine
Energy Drinks, Kroger Runs, and Thrifting Shenanigans
When I was little, Sundays were sacred. My Papa would take me for a drive, stopping at a tiny corner store where he’d buy me a cheap little baby doll with a round, bald head—and always a king-size Butterfinger, which made Granny shake her head and fuss. Sunday afternoons were her time to shine, cooking up a huge dinner that became the highlight of the week. Those simple rituals left a mark on me, and I’ve carried them into my own version of Sunday traditions.
Modern Sundays: A New Kind of Ritual
Nowadays, my Sundays kick off with caffeine and chaos. Logan and I hop in the car, energy drinks in hand, for our 30-minute pilgrimage to Kroger. The soundtrack? A mix of TikTok scrolling, family chatter, and debates about what’s for dinner this week.
Without fail, Logan sneaks donuts into the cart. Every. Single. Time. He flashes that cheeky smile, and I cave like clockwork. Some battles just aren’t worth fighting, especially when there’s powdered sugar involved.
The Kroger run isn’t just about groceries; it’s a chance to plan our week and make sure we carve out time for family dinners. Amid the whirlwind of raising teens, those meals are sacred—a little slice of togetherness we’ve managed to preserve.
From Grocery Carts to Goodwill Bins
If my sister Skye is free, the post-Kroger plan is clear: hit the Goodwill bins. And let me tell you, it’s a spectacle. The resale warriors swoop in like hawks as soon as new bins roll out, and the girls with yellow gloves are there for the drama but won’t touch a single piece of clothing.
For us, it’s not about making a profit. It’s about the thrill of the hunt—$1.98 a pound for hidden treasures? Sign me up. We laugh, we dig, and we make memories one quirky find at a time.
A Life Built on Love and Laughs
Sundays like these remind me how far we’ve come. Logan and I met when I was 29, and he was almost 26 (cue the cradle robber jokes 😂). Fast forward to today: I’m 41, he’s nearly 38, and we’re celebrating nine years of marriage. This year will mark 12 years since our first date. Time flies when you’re juggling grocery runs, raising teens, and squeezing in thrifting adventures.
Family vacations have been the backdrop for so many of our memories—I’ve honestly lost count of how many we’ve taken. But solo vacations? Not enough. It might be time to change that. Cruising is my absolute favorite way to unwind, but if not that, a visit to my grandma in Utah is always on the list.
Here’s to Sundays
These little routines—whether it’s energy drinks, donuts in the cart, or diving into the bins with Skye—are what make life feel grounded. They’re a reminder of where we’ve been, what we’ve built, and the laughter that keeps us going.
Here’s to the Sunday rituals that feel like home. ❤️
